The patent war is finally over for Apple and HTC. The two tech giants reached a 10-year licensing agreement, but the details were not disclosed. The companies have also withdrawn all pending lawsuits against each other.
Apple’s late CEO Steve Jobs declared a patent war against other smartphone manufacturer, involving major players such as Samsung, Motorola and HTC, in year 2010. He stated: “we can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it … [We] think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.” The disputes among the mobile-makers involve around hardware design, core operating system functionalities and elements of user interface.
