According to the European Patenting Office, Philips was the leading company in terms of patent applications. Last year, Philips had applied for 1759 patents making it the second highest in patent applicant for the year 2011. Philips is also highly ranked as one of the companies being granted the most patents, being granted 477 patents, they are on seventh place behind giants such as Siemens, Samsung and Panasonic.
